Pharmacy Team
Pharmacists are specialists in medicines. We work alongside the pharmacy technicians and as a team we review best use of medicines for all of our patients, improve medicines safety and make sure medicines are being used effectively. We answer queries from patients, doctors, nurses and the prescribing teams; review patient's medicines with them; check doses of medicines are safe and appropriate; and do a lot of work on long term project such as putting structures in place to improve medicines safety for many patients.
Pharmacy technicians work alongside the practice pharmacists and clinicians within the GP surgery. They are registered professionals and are involved in medication reviews, audits and can respond to an array of medication related queries. This may be in the form of adding and reviewing medication following a discharge from hospital or it might be counselling patients on new medication in addition to looking at prescribing guidance.
